Cycle to Work, Get a Free Bike from King County

The Green Bike Project (GBP) will provide 200 new commuter bikes - and 100 tune ups for existing bikes - to commuters in return for their pledge to reduce drive-alone commuting by 60% during the project.

The GBP will begin in mid-August, 2008 and will conclude on May 31, 2009. Participants are not required to commute by bike from mid-November through mid-February. However, any bicycle commute trips they make during the winter months will count towards their reduction pledge.

At the end of the project, participants who fulfill their pledge will:

* earn sole ownership of their green bike, or

* if the participant opted for a tune up of their existing bike, be entered into a drawing for a $1,000 REI gift card.

Bikers, Brews and the Blues!
Riders traded in their gears for beers at the Hilton Gardens hotel in Issaquah on June 20, while raising money and awareness for JDRF.

Our friends at Mack and Jack Brewery provided the beer and "Old Dog and the New Tricks" provided the soundtrack to a fun and successful evening.

Check out photos from the event on the PHOTO GALLERY page.

Volunteers Needed for the 2nd Annual Black Diamond Ride to Cure Diabetes!

Yes, we’re 3 months away from our Black Diamond Ride but right now we need people who can volunteer to help get the word out by updating on-line bike calendars, passing out brochures to clubs and stores and putting up posters. We also need people interested in helping to plan the event- especially our new Family Ride with Family fun area at the turn around. Contact susan@jdrfnwride.org if you’re interested.

JDRF NW Ride

Spokespeople

The JDRF NW Ride: Spokespeople team mission is to use cycling as a healthy part of diabetes management, provide support and mentoring to all individuals and families dealing with diabetes, and to raise funds and awareness as a part of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation mission to cure diabetes.
Why we ride

Fitness... Pleasure... Community... To find a cure for diabetes! Diabetes is a devastating disease; physically, emotionally and financially. We ride to raise funds that will put an end to diabetes and its staggering complications.

"Think of bicycles as rideable art that can just about save the world."

-Grant Petersen

Why do you ride?

Fitness? Pleasure? Community? To be a part of a cure?

Join us as we ride to cure diabetes!

All the funds our team raises go the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We are proud of their campaign to raise a billion dollars which has been devoted to find a cure to diabetes. JDRF makes sure that all that we raise goes toward the JDRF mission to find a cure to diabetes.

Who we are

We are an outgoing group of riders of all skill, fitness levels, and ages from children to seniors. We are about community with the benefit of a dedicated cycling coach. The team is open to anyone who wants to ride with us. Each of us has a unique story of how diabetes has touched our lives.
